Vail, CO - Opening Day 2011 - 2012

Hello all,

The Vail opening day video has now been posted. It is in full 1080p HD, so if you can, I highly suggest you watch it in that. The video only features footage from the first day, but there will be a video coming out soon with the entire weekend. So far I think that Vail's opening day was the most successful (although I was not at Breckenridge's), mostly because of how they managed the amount of people that were there. 2 different sections of the mountain were open which really helped keep people spread out and there were multiple ways back down which helped too. Friday wasn't bad in terms of the amount of people, but Saturday and Sunday was defiantly packed. Very successful opening day, here is the link (you can also click the tittle of this post): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8Bk5ciPr5o

Vail Opening Day Video Postponed

Hello all,

The Vail video of opening day is going to have to wait until I get back on Monday. The file size is over 3GB in 1080p and the internet connection that I have where I am staying is just not good enough to upload (over 14 hours to upload). If any of you know how I could upload the video faster or at a smaller size without degrading quality, please let me know.

Vail Opening Day 2011-2012

Hello everyone,

Vail opening day 2011 - 2012 was amazing! Conditions were great and the weather was amazing. The entire day was recorded in 1080p 30fps and it looks amazing. A short video will be coming out in a bit, but the entire video won't come out until after the weekend and will have the best footage from the entire weekend (Yes, I get to be at Vail the entire weekend!).

Skiing Vail from Top to Bottom and Vail Opening Day 2011-2012 Plans

Hello all,

In preparation for Friday I have posted a "Skiing Vail from Top to Bottom" video that features a long string of runs from Two Elk lodge all the way back to the base.  It is a great string of runs and probably the best way to get back to the east side base from Two Elk lodge. The only downside is that there are two long catwalks in between. Also, it is most likely going to be the last footage from the 2010-2011 season, everything else from now on will be from this season and filmed in HD.

If you weren't aware, Vail opens this Friday and SkiSurge will be there the entire weekend! I checked there website and this is what I found for opening day, looks pretty good!

Lifts open: 9AM
Number of lifts: 4 (3 chairs, 1 gondola)
Number of runs: 4

Skiing Keystone, CO - Opening Day 2011-2012 Season

Hello Everyone!

Skiing opening day at Keystone yesterday was amazing! Great conditions for early season. The video is now up. I had a bit of trouble uploading it. The first time it uploaded in 240p, cause of the formatting, so I had to re-render it again, then it finally worked. If you can, I highly recommend that you watch it in 720p. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8zhrCUMhoU or you may click the tittle of this post. Enjoy!

Keystone Opening Day and Arapahoe Basin Opening Week Video

Hello all,

Just getting to Keystone now. They've got 4 runs open and a few lifts. Not bad for opening day. I am still messing around with recording settings, so it may be awhile before I get it right. The Arapahoe basin video is all ready, however the import got messed up and imported as 540p rather then 1080p which it was recorded in. Video will be up when I get back. Keystone is going to be awesome!

Skiing Arapahoe Basin

Hello everyone,

I just got back from skiing Arapahoe Basin. The conditions where pretty decent considering its only October. However, despite the large snowfall the past few days, the resort still hasn't opened any more runs. There was a  total only 3 runs opened, but one of those was the terrain park. There was also only one lift running. Lift lines where about 10-15 minutes and about 7 minute ride times. I only stayed there a few hours because of this. Besides all of that the skiing was amazing. It felt good to be back skiing again after such a long summer. Whats even better is that I recorded everything with my new HD helmet cam in full 1080p. I am editing the footage now and the video should be up in a few hours.

2011-2012 Opening Day Plans

The other day I was asked which opening day events I would be at for the 2011 - 2012 ski season. The answer is I will be at as many as I can be. I will defiantly be going to arapahoe basin this friday. I had mentioned before that I probably would not be going to arapahoe for a while because of the conditions, but thankfully the entire Colorado state is getting dumped on the next two days. The mountains are supposed to get up to 3 feet of fresh powder which is great for the resorts! Currently arapahoe basin only has three runs open, but I am sure lots more will be open after this huge snow storm. After arapahoe I will be going to keystone for their opening day on November 4th. I may even be there the entire weekend. According to their website, the entire front mountain is going to be open then. I will try my best to get the videos up the day I ski, otherwise they will be up the following day, and of course, now they will be in HD.

Breckenridge opens the following Friday the 11th. I am probably going to be there as well. Vail opens the 18th and Beaver Creek opens the 23rd. I am not sure if I will be at those.

The 2011-2012 ski season is getting off to a good start. Snow conditions are supposed to be on par with last year's record breaking conditions, so make sure your ready!

Ski Runs Ep.4 at Keystone Colorado

Episode 4 of Ski Runs has now been posted! It is a bit longer than usual (over 6 minutes), but I figured that was probably a good thing rather than bad. Episode 4 features 4 runs, 1 blue and 3 green. It takes you from the top of the mountain all the way to the bottom in a nice string of moderate runs. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Va2ASH-mwA You can also click the tittle of this post and it will take you right to the video. Enjoy!

Ski Surge is back!!! And other important news!

Hello everyone!

The past few weeks I have been out of the office and been extremly busy with work and school. I apologize for not getting the Ski Runs episodes out every Thursday like I had promised. Now that I am back, so is Ski Runs. Episode 3 will be posted in the next few hours and the remaining episodes will come out every few days or so. I am assuming you guys like the current format that episode 2 had, so I am going to keep it like that. Unfortunately, I have some how lost a large majority of the footage from last year  (footage not in any other videos) that I was planning on using for these episodes. So I am left with footage that has already been in videos. However, the entire runs themselves have not been fully seen, so I am going to go ahead and still do the series. I was very upset when I realized this, but there is nothing I can do, I hope you guys understand.

The Colorado ski season officially started on October 13th with Arapahoe basin. I opted out from going because of the conditions. Most of the snow is manufactured and I did not want to ruin my skis on the first day. However, Keystone opens on the 4th of November and I have full plans to ski there opening day (possibly even camping out the night before!).

I have also upgraded my equipment as I had promised at the end of last year. I now have the Drift HD 170 stealth. I was very pleased with their non HD x170 that I recorded with last year, so I went ahead and got their brand new HD stealth 170. I have done a bit of testing with it in my back yard side by side with my old one. The difference is amazing. I may upload that as well later in the week. I am really looking forward to using it this ski season. I will probably keep my old one and use it has a pole mount to give another perspective.

Any way, I know this post was rather long, but I wanted to get all of that information out. I also plan on having a lot more "extreme" ski footage this coming season. Stuff like tree skiing and terrain park jumps.
Will keep you guys updated on Keystone opening day skiing and I may be going to arapahoe basin next friday, depending on the conditions.

The 2011-2012 ski season is going to be amazing!

You may have also noticed the new "logo" for SkiSurge. I will be playing around with it for a bit, as I don't exactly like how it is now, but it is certainly better then before! Enjoy the new episode!

Don't Forget to get your 2011-2012 ski passes passes!!!

Hello all!

Today I got my ticket into the 2011 - 2012 ski season, the epic pass! If you plan on getting one this season, I would certainly recommend getting them early, plus they are usually less money then too. And, if you live in Colorado, I highly suggest the epic pass. Unlimited skiing at all of Vail Resorts (plus some other bonuses too)! Since I am now even more hyped up for this year's ski season, I have decided to move the schedule of "Ski Runs" around. A new episode of Ski Runs will be posted every Thursday instead of every Friday now! The first episode will be posted tomorrow.

"Ski Runs", a new video series every friday

Hello!

I am starting a new video series "Ski Runs" that will feature a different ski run in each episode. The episode will show its location, difficulty, popularity, and general comments on it. Ski runs will be featured from Vail, Beaver Creek, and Keystone. There will be a new episode every friday starting next friday and it will run up until the start of ski season. That means there will be a total of 15 episodes! Footage will come from this season. Of course it is always encouraging to hear feedback, so let me know what you think.
